Because Blogger stats are ran off of 3rd party cookies along with many other stat counting sites, this causes a problem when the users computer or browser is blocking tracking cookies. Blocking 3rd party cookies is not recommended not only because of Blogger stats but many other sites online uses these to recognize returning visitors.
- But I don't want other sites to recognize me!
If your still worried about identity theft or something along those lines you can use Internet Explorer. It will allow you to select what sites to allow the cookies to be used on. Although this may not be the best idea for those who are web surfers. And you may also find it a pain to have to allow cookies in sites you select every time.
- Indications that suggest I am blocking cookies.
- How do I enable cookies in my browser?
Another option that may be blocking cookies on your computer is your anti-virus. Anti-virus sometimes see tracking cookies as unwanted malware that is slowing down your browser. You normally can find settings somewhere in your anti-virus to stop the tracking cookies from being blocked. Some anti-virus maybe set to remove tracking cookies on scan while other block them altogether. Depending on your anti-virus you may need to Google info on how to enable tracking cookies.
- Examples of Google search input.
McAfee anti-virus cookies management
Stopzilla cookies
Anything along those lines should pull up resulted to help you will this issue.
I decided to do a experiment with my anti-virus to show you the effects of this in action.
While I was doing this experiment I noticed another problem. If you continuously change your stats to "Track Pageviews" and "Don't Track Pageviews" you may end up with a problem. Instead of the options changing back and forth, you end up with the options being unresponsive. So the option will be stuck on one or the other. To avoid this issue, you will need to clear your browser cookies.
